We recognise the importance of Mental health and well-being in Leicestershire and it is part of the health and well-being strategy for the county.
We know that many people struggle to maintain their mental health and well-being. This can affect people at different stages of their lives e.g. young people can be affected as much as older people.
We want to support people to maintain their mental health and well-being through the 'Five Ways to Well- being' (5WTWB) framework .
The 5WTWB includes five, evidence based, elements which you can incorporate into your life to help maintain your mental health and well-being including: connect, be active, take notice, keep learning and give.
-
Building and maintaining strong social connections with family, friends, and the wider community is vital for mental well-being. This can involve spending quality time with loved ones, participating in social activities, or simply checking in with others.
-
Helping others and contributing to the community can bring a sense of purpose and fulfilment. This could involve volunteering, donating to charity, or simply offering a helping hand to someone in need.
-
Engaging in physical activity is not only good for physical health but also for mental well-being. This can include anything from brisk walking and cycling to more structured exercise like swimming or team sports.
-
Paying attention to the present moment and appreciating the small things in life can help reduce stress and improve mood. This could involve mindfulness practices, spending time in nature, or simply noticing the beauty around you.
-
Continuing to learn new things, whether it's a new skill, a new language, or simply reading a book, can boost confidence and provide a sense of accomplishment. This could also involve exploring new hobbies or interests.
