Suicide is everybody's business. To help build your knowledge and understanding of suicide, mental health and self-harm a range of free training is available locally.

The training below is free, and open to everyone.


Zero Suicide Alliance

The Zero Suicide Alliance have created a short self-directed awareness video - suicide, let's talk (full). This course is available below and takes around 20 minutes to complete. It aims to increase awareness and understanding of suicide, providing simple advice so that you have the confidence to Start A Conversation. If you would like to increase your skills and confidence level to start a conversation, we encourage you to complete this short training.

The Zero Suicide Alliance also have more self-directed training available. They have the shortened version of the awareness training (5 minutes), plus social isolation training and the awareness training in other editions, for example the university student edition.


Making Every Contact Count eLearning

Making Every Contact Count (MECC) is an approach to improving the health of the population that everyone can use.

It uses the many conversations we have to encourage and help people to make healthier lifestyle choices. You do not need to be an expert to have a simple chat which could make a significant and lasting difference for someone.

The eLearning will take you around 45 minutes to complete and aims to:

  • Increase your awareness of Healthy Conversation Skills and how they apply to your role
  • Increase your knowledge of prevention and lifestyle behaviours
  • Improve your knowledge of behaviour change
  • Increase your confidence to have a healthy conversation
  • Increase your awareness of local signposting options and resources
